Greenville, SC is the largest city of the Greenville Metropolitan Area (MSA) which had a 2006 estimated population of over 600,000. Greenville is also the largest city of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson Combined Statistical Area (CSA) which has a 2006 estimated population of over 1.2 million. The CSA, an 8-county region of northwestern South Carolina, is known as The Upstate.
Strategically located approximately halfway between the cities of Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina along Interstate I-85, Greenville is one of the most rapidly growing areas of the country and the fastest in the state.
As the economic engine of the state, Greenville is also a great place to do business. Over 240 international firms representing 20 nations have a Greenville presence - including BMW North America, GE, and Michelin North America which are headquartered here - giving it the highest concentration of foreign capital investment (per capita) in the nation.
